ANR MARMOR Project
– Observing the volcano under the sea
The MARMOR project is setting up an underwater geophysical observatory dedicated to seismic and volcanic monitoring in Mayotte, one of the most active volcanic areas in the world.
Objective: To detect and characterise low-magnitude earthquakes, measure ocean floor deformation and observe underwater degassing plumes in order to better understand the processes that may precede new eruptive activity or major instability.
Our work focuses in particular on the development and operation of long-distance optical seismometers.
